From time to time I run into people who complain about seeing two men exchange a kiss. One of the things they bring up is that “There are children here” and that always bugs me because that implies that a man kissing a woman is a healthy thing to see, but a man kissing another man, that’s somehow damaging to their little psyches. 

Here’s the problem. Two men or two women showing affection for one another is no more harmful to a child than a man showing affection for a woman, and in reality what is harmful to your children is the things you are teaching them about how to treat people, by teaching them to treat people as inferior or more “disgusting” then themselves, you are raising bigots, and by doing so are creating in him harmful and damaging attitudes that could have destructive consequences for his or her own life. 

So, guys, girls, next time you hear that argument, about there being children present when all you did was give your partner a kiss, counter with “My kiss isn’t what harms your kid, it’s what you’re teaching him/her about our kiss.”
